Jan Friberg, M.D., Ph.D., specializes in the treatment of individuals with
fertility problems. The Chicago-based physician is board-certified in obstetrics
and gynecology, as well as in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
His interest in fertility dates back to 1964 when he worked with Sweden's
Professor Carl Gemzell. Professor Gemzell invented the urine pregnancy test
in the late 1950's and developed the predecessor to the pergonal now used
in infertility treatments.
Dr. Friberg studied with a Ford Foundation Fellowship, and in 1974, received
his doctorate in reproductive immunology from the University of Uppsala,
Sweden where he also obtained his medical degree later that same year.
Dr. Friberg moved to the United States in 1975 and completed his residency
at the Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He has held many
professorships in both Sweden and the United States, and has served as
Chief of Infertility at Chicago's Mt. Sinai Hospital Medical Center.
Dr. Friberg was co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of In Vitro Fertilization and
Embryo Transfer and served as an editorial board member of the American
Journal of Reproductive Immunology. He has made 138 international
presentations on fertility and related subjects, and has authored articles
in 165 international publications. He holds active membership in 17
scientific and professional organizations.
Dr. Friberg is currently professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Chicago's
Rush Medical College, and is medical director of Chicago's Women's Wellness Center
at the Water Tower Surgicenter. He works internationally in conjunction with other medical
professionals who are addressing fertility issues. He is in private practice with
his wife Inger, who is also an obstetrician and gynecologist.
Of his work, Dr. Friberg states, "We do everything possible to help those
with fertility problems realize their dream of having a child. We believe in hope."
